There are two types of Up & Over Garage Doors, Canopy and Retractable.
With Canopy Up & Over doors the weight of the door is counterbalanced with a torsion spring that runs across the top of the door.
With Retractable Up & Over doors, there is a horizontal track inside the garage that the door runs along. Retractable Up & Over doors tend to be more robust because of the supporting frame.
Canopy doors tend to be slightly quicker to install and are lower in cost.
Up & Over doors require space in front of the door to swing open. This is typically around one third of the length of the door. It is therefore worth just considering the length of your driveway and the length of your cars, to ensure there is enough space. Around one third of the door length will swing out..
